On Friday, 17 October, Pietro Paganini took part in the roundtable “Obesity: Strategies and Tools to Face the Epidemic of the Third Millennium”, held within the framework of Spazio Nutrizione. The event brought together leading experts, academics, and practitioners to explore one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time: obesity.

A High-Level Discussion on Obesity   

The roundtable was moderated by Prof. Michele Carruba and Pietro Paganini, and featured contributions from Roberto Vettor (definition and biological foundations), Silvio Buscemi (clinical and pharmacological therapy), Lorenzo Mantovani (direct and indirect costs), Alexis Malavazos (prevention), Lorenzo Maria Donini (personalized nutrition), Hellas Cena (nutrition and artificial intelligence), and Luisella Vigna (care pathways between hospitals and communities – PDTA).

Exploring the Multiple Dimensions of Obesity

Throughout the discussion, participants examined the complex and multifaceted nature of obesity, from its biological causes and prevention strategies to innovative therapeutic approaches, including the promise of new pharmaceutical treatments. Speakers also highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in nutritional science, as well as the importance of integrated care models between hospitals and local communities to ensure effective and long-term management.

Contributing to the Debate 

During the session, Pietro Paganini presented the book he co-authored with Prof. Michele Carruba, further contributing to the debate on how to rethink prevention and intervention strategies to support healthier, more balanced, and longer lives.
